asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what action he is taking on the proposals submitted to him last December for an increase in travelling and subsistence allowances for county councillors.

My right hon. Friend is considering various suggestions made by the local authority associations for the revision of these allowances.
