§ Mr. Stonehouseasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what evidence was produced in the cases brought against Africans charged with membership of an illegal organisation in Nyasaland; and, in particular, what were the relevant dates for such membership.
§ Mr. Lennox-Boyd,pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 28th April, 1959; Vol. 604, c. 1086], supplied the following information:
The evidence in the various cases falls into one or more of four categories:
(1) enrolment of members;
(2) possession of membership cards;
(3) possession of other Congress documents;
(4) active support of the organisation.
7th March is the earliest date of any offence subsequently made the subject of a prosecution.
