§ Mr. Lewisasked the Minister of Education whether he is aware of the advantages to pupils and teaching staffs in having the 11-plus and general certificate of education examinations in the autumn rather than in the early and middle summer; and whether he will advise the education authorities to consider the advisability of having these examinations in the autumn.
§ Mr. Geoffrey LloydExaminations for selection at the age of 11-plus are not normally held in the summer. So far as the General Certificate of Education is concerned, a change to the autumn would entail a general change in the academic year for universities and other comparable institutions, as well as for the schools, and I think it likely that the hon. Member's suggestion would create more difficulties than it would solve.
