82. Mr. Gresham Cookeasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the results of the visit of the President of the World Bank to Colonel Nasser to negotiate in regard to British interests in Egypt.
§ Mr. ErrollAt the request of the United Kingdom Government and the Government of the United Arab Republic the President of the International Bank agreed to use his good offices towards a settlement of the financial matters in 37W dispute between the two Governments. As a result an agreement was initialled in Cairo on 16th January and it is hoped that it will be formally signed quite soon. My right hon. Friend then intends to make a statement to the House and to publish the text of the agreement in the form of a White Paper.
