HC Deb 21 January 1959 vol 598 c26W
55. Mr. Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in view of the fact that the Federal and Laender ministers of justice are to set up a commission of inquiry into the charges and allegations that former nazi judges and prosecutors are being re-employed in their former positions, and that those who are being accused are to be responsible for setting up the commission of inquiry, whether he will request the Bonn Government to appoint an independent commission of inquiry into this matter, consisting of persons who were in no way employed as nazi judges or prosecutors.

Mr. Profumo

No. I am confident that the Federal Government will ensure that all allegations that are made in good faith will be adequately investigated. It must, however, be left to the Federal Government to decide how this investigation should be carried out.
