HC Deb 18 February 1959 vol 600 c47W
10. Mr. W. Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to what extent Her Majesty's Government now accept responsibility under the Potsdam Agreement for pursuing a policy of demilitarisation and denazification in Germany.

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

The provisions relating to demilitarisation and denazification in Germany are contained in Section II of the Potsdam Agreement. Those regarding demilitarisation were enforced in Western Germany until 1950. They have now been superseded by the Bonn and Paris Agreements. The provisions concerning denazification were enforced by the Occupying Powers in Western Germany until 1949, when the responsibility for preventing any resurgence of Nazism passed to the Federal Republic.
