asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he will consider restricting the number of grants of planning permission in respect of new service stations for the supply of petrol and other motor requisites.

It is in the first instance for the local planning authority to consider an application for a new petrol station; but I am sending the hon. Member a copy of a circular issued to planning authorities in England and Wales explaining the planning considerations which in my right hon. Friend's view apply in such cases.
