HC Deb 12 February 1959 vol 599 cc241-2W
Mr. M. Clark Hutchison

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will make a statement about the possibility of restoring the facilites for provision of factories which were formerly made available in certain areas through the Development Fund.

Mr. Erroll

Up to last summer, when provision for alternative forms of assistance was made by the Distribution of Industry (Industrial Finance) Act, 1958, the Development Fund was available to assist the building of factories for letting or sale in North-West Wales (including Anglesey), the Crofting Counties of Scotland, and the Buckie-Peterhead district. It has now been decided to restore these facilities to the areas named. The possibility of obtaining financial assistance under the Distribution of Industry (Industrial Finance) Act is still open to undertakings in these areas. The new arrangements will not in any way affect the rôle of the Development Fund in those areas where depopulation is the main problem.
