§ Mr. J. AmeryOn the 31st January there were 2,409 persons detained under Emergency Regulations in Kenya.
§ Mr. Footasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many persons are now detained under emergency powers on Manda Island; how many of these persons have appeared during the last 12 months before the Advisory Committee; in how many cases the Advisory Committee have recommended release; and how many of such recommendations have been carried out.
§ Mr. J. AmeryOf the 96 detainees on Manda Island on the 31st January, 50 have appeared before the Advisory Committee in the last 12 months. The Committee recommended that 22 of these detainees should pass through the "pipeline" camps for rehabilitation towards release. Four have already been transferred for this purpose and the other 18 will follow.
§ Mr. Stonehouseasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what are the red, blue and green categories of detainees in Kenya; and how many, respectively, are detained without trial.
§ Mr. J. AmeryThese categories are used for administrative convenience to distinguish between the types of prisoner held. Their significance, however, varies from district to district so that I cannot answer the second part of the Question.
