HC Deb 12 February 1959 vol 599 cc247-8W
Mr. M. Noble

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will make a further statement about the air ambulance service.

Mr. Maclay

Yes. Improved helicopter cover will be provided by the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force so long as they have helicopters in the area to meet their military requirements.

The improvements affect the islands without scheduled airfields and remote areas on the mainland. It will be possible to use the helicopters to transport patients on a less restricted basis than at present. I am grateful to my noble Friend the First Lord of the Admiralty and to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Air for their help.

I am writing today giving details to my hon. Friend and to other hon. Members who, I know, have taken an interest in these matters.
