§ 97. Mr. Mellishasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty to what extent, in view of the delay in the conclusion of an agreement to purchase a nuclear power plant from the United States, the considerable increase in the estimated cost, and the need to prepare a complete new design for the submarine itself, Her Majesty's Government proposes to reconsider the policy of installing a United States power plant in H.M.S. "Dreadnought".
§ Mr. C. Ian Orr-EwingThere is no intention to vary the policy announced by my predecessor in reply to my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Horncastle (Commander Maitland) on 11th June, 1958. I do not accept the suggestion that there has been delay in negotiating the complex agreement involved; or that a considerable increase in cost will result: or that its fulfilment will entail a completely new design for "Dreadnought."
