HC Deb 10 February 1959 vol 599 c167W
16. Mrs. Mann

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how far school attendances have been affected by illness amongst children; to what extent this illness is infectious; and what medical agreement has been reached on diagnosis and treatment.

Mr. N. Macpherson

In some eastern areas many more children than usual have recently been absent, as a result of various catarrhal conditions normally of a mild nature. The illness is thought to be a virus infection and laboratory investigation is proceeding. The treatment recommended is to keep the children at home as for a cold.
