HC Deb 10 February 1959 vol 599 c177W
Mr. Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in his negotiations with the Egyptian Government over financial matters connected with the recent war in Suez, he will insist that, as, in the view of Her Majesty's Government, Egypt was responsible for this war, the financial settlement should include not less than £60 million for the Suez base installations and the stores, together with £25 million as estimated in the Appropriation Accounts in addition to any losses claimed by civilian and private interests.

Mr. Amory

In advance of the signature and publication of the Agreement it would not be appropriate for me to discuss how governmental claims are being handled.
