§ 84. Mr. Lewisasked the President of the Board of Trade to what extent approaches were made to Her Majesty's Government by British business interests for the completion of a financial agreement and the commencement of normal relations with Egypt, on the grounds that British industry and businessmen were losing valuable business to the Germans, Japanese and French; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Sir D. EcclesThe Government have not been strongly pressed in this matter by business interests, who have no doubt realised that everything possible was being done to secure a satisfactory agreement. We are fully alive to the importance for our trade of restoring normal relations with Egypt.
