§ Mr. Ness Edwards
asked the Paymaster-General if he will give a general direction to the National Coal Board to adopt a national policy of clearing up the site on the abandonment of any colliery undertaking.
§ Sir I. Horobin
No; a general direction is unnecessary. The National Coal Board is already under a statutory obligation to fence or plug abandoned colliery shafts and it fully accepts the need to take every reasonable step to clear up the sites.
