HC Deb 04 February 1959 vol 599 c66W
91. Mr. J. B. Hynd

asked the Minister of Defence in view of the unanimous protest passed by the all-party city council of Dortmund against the projected establishment of a British rocket base within the city limits, whether it remains his policy to proceed with the Dortmund base.

Mr. Sandys

The decision to use an airfield near Dortmund as the peacetime location of this regiment was made in accordance with N.A.T.O. plans and after full consultation and agreement with the Federal German Government. As I made clear in my reply to the hon. Member for Uxbridge (Mr. Beswick) on 22nd January, in emergency the regiment would move to an operational position many miles away from Dortmund.
