159. Mr. Chetwynd

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty what stage has been reached in the development of the atomic submarine, H.M.S. "Dreadnought"; and whether a contract has been signed yet with the Westinghouse Company of the United States of America for the supply of a reactor.

Mr. Orr-Ewing

Design and assembly of materials for "Dreadnought" are proceeding satisfactorily. It is hoped that the contract with the American Company which is likely to supply the machinery will be signed soon.

Mr. G. Brown

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty what progress has been made with the proposed purchase of a power plant for the British nuclear submarine.
