Mr. Sorensenasked the Minister of Health how many sanatoria or hospitals for tuberculosis patients have been closed down because of the decline of this 14W disease; in particular, to what extent Black Notley Hospital, Essex, is now used for the accommodation of tuberculosis patients; and how many patients have been transferred to this hospital from other hospitals now closed or no longer accommodating this type of patient.
§ Mr. Walker-SmithSince 31st December, 1954, 55 tuberculosis and chest hospitals in England and Wales have been closed or have had their use substantially changed. About 30 tuberculosis patients from one such hospital were transferred to Black Notley Hospital, where 209 of the 450 beds are available for tuberculosis patients, with a present occupancy of 136.
