HC Deb 17 December 1959 vol 615 c222W
97. Mr. Fernyhough

asked the Minister of Education if he is aware that no new school has been built in Hebburn for twenty-two years, and that because of the lack of schools in the Toner Avenue area, parents are having to find as much as£30 per year to meet the cost of bus fares for their children who must travel to other parts of the town for their education; and whether, in view of this, he will give the Durham County Council permission to commence immediately the building of the Toner Avenue infants' school and the Toner Avenue junior school.

Sir D. Eccles

The infant school is already under construction and should be finished next year. I agree that the junior school is needed, but not as urgently at other new schools in the county.
