§ Mr. G. M. Thomsonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what representations he has received against the imposition of health charges for treatment in Governmental medical units in Uganda; and what reply he has made.
§ Mr. J. AmeryNo representations have been directed to my right hon. Friend. A memorandum by the Uganda Association on this subject was, however, received by the Protectorate Government. The Protectorate Government has sent a reply to the Association in which it was pointed out that, as a result of the debate in the Legislative Council in September, it has withdrawn its proposals for levying charges on those who receive treatment in its medical units. It accepted an amendment by which it undertook to consider an alternative206W method of financing improved medical services. In these circumstances a further reply by my right hon. Friend to the Uganda Association does not seem to be called for.
A copy of the Association's memorandum was received in the Colonial Office and acknowledged.
