HC Deb 17 December 1959 vol 615 c264W
Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for War how many civilians are now employed in connection with the guided missiles establishment in the Western Isles; and how many it is estimated will be retained in permanent employment.

Mr. H. Fraser

The present numbers employed are 8 by the contractor, 6 by the War Department and 14 by the Air Ministry.

Construction is nearly complete but there will be employment for about 30 men on maintenance work. We hope also to take on an increasing number of civilians in replacement of soldiers for general duties about the range. There should eventually be another 50 employed in this way.
