§ 107. Mr. du Cannasked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance, in view of the hardship frequently suffered by retirement pensioners and others living in country areas without Post Office facilities who travel substantial distances in order to draw the pensions to which they are entitled, an example of which has been given him by the hon. Member for Taunton, relating to Bury, near Dulverton, what action he proposes to take to remedy this situation; and why it is not possible to pay pensions in such cases by post.
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterThe general arrangements, under which a pensioner can in appropriate cases appoint a friend or relative to cash his pension orders for him, appear to work satisfactorily. I have no reason to think that these arrangements have broken down at the particular village which my hon. Friend has in mind, but I am writing to him about this.
