HC Deb 14 December 1959 vol 615 c102W
82. Mr. W. Hamilton

asked the Minister of Labour how many boys who have left school in Fife in the last year have obtained employment in the mining industry; what percentage this was of the total number of boys leaving school; and what were the comparable figures for each of the previous two years.

Mr. P. Thomas

Up to November of this year, 268 boys leaving school started work in coal mining in Fife. This represents 11 per cent. of the total number of boys leaving school in the county during the school year ending last July. The corresponding figures for 1957 and 1958 were 702 and 407–34 per cent. and 19 per cent. respectively.
