HC Deb 10 December 1959 vol 615 c59W
58. Mr. G. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the number of African children in Kenya over the age of 11 years; and the number that are receiving grammar school education or technical school education, respectively.

Mr. J. Amery

There are no age statistics to answer the first part of the Question. As regards the second part, on 30th June, 1958, there were 3,922 African pupils at secondary schools and 1,114 at technical and vocational institutions. There were also 73,704 Africans receiving intermediate education, without a grammar or technical bias, most of whom were probably over 11, and a number of special schools.
