§ 5. Mr. Dribergasked the Secretary of State for War what consultations take place between his Department and the Royal Fine Art Commission when major projects of building or reconstruction are being undertaken; and at what stage the Commission was consulted when the rebuilding of the Royal Artillery Barracks, Woolwich, was being planned.
§ Mr. SoamesWe consult the Commission over a new building if its design is of artistic importance or a matter of public amenity. Plans for Woolwich barracks were shown to the Commission after they had been approved by the local authorities. Some changes in the scheme were made at the request of the Commission who then agreed to our proceeding.
