HL Deb 09 December 1959 vol 220 cc264-6WA
LORD BARNBY

asked Her Majesty's Government what are the average daily receipts from the telephone service in the United Kingdom for weekdays other than Saturdays; also what are the average receipts on Sundays.

LORD CHESHAM

Local calls are recorded on a meter, which is read only at half-yearly intervals. Only the revenue from trunk calls, therefore, can be divided between the days of the week when it is earned. This revenue averages about £180,000 a day for week- days other than Saturdays and £40,000 a day on Sundays.

House adjourned at twenty-two minutes before eight o'clock.
