HC Deb 03 December 1959 vol 614 c143W
6. Mr. Osborne

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a national appeal through the Federation of British Industries, Association of British Chambers of Commerce, National Union of Manufacturers and other employers' associations for moderation in dividend rises in 1960, which the much greater profits for 1959 will permit, in order to help keep down excessive wage demands and so further his policy of lower prices; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Barber

In my right hon. Friend's speech during the Debate on the Address he asked businessmen to use any increases in profits primarily for the two purposes of investment and reduction in prices. He is hoping to discuss these matters informally with representatives of the organisations mentioned early next week.
