HC Deb 03 December 1959 vol 614 c155W
97. Mr. Hayman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will arrange for a public inquiry to hear objections against the replacement of the existing prison on Dartmoor by another new prison there, before a decision is taken on the siting of the new prison.

Mr. R. A. Butler

Proposals for the reconstruction of Dartmoor are to be discussed at a meeting to be held at Princetown next week between representatives of the Prison Commission and the Ministry of Works and of the authorities and organisations concerned. I will consider, in the light of the outcome of this meeting, whether a public inquiry appears to be necessary.
