HC Deb 02 December 1959 vol 614 c138W
Commander Pursey

asked the Minister of Health the number of surgeons in Hull engaged under the National Health Scheme, the number of these surgeons who take private patients and fees for their operations, the number of private operations this year and the additional delays caused to National Health Service patients by these private operations.

Miss Pitt

Nineteen, of whom 16 have part-time contracts and are thus at liberty to practise privately. Information about private operations is not available but there is only one private bed in the National Health Service hospitals in Hull and its use has not led to any significant delay in treating National Health Service patients.
