asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what will be the net benefit after tax of the recommended increase of pay of £1,000 per annum to the Head of the Civil Service and the Permanent Secretaries, respectively.

If the official was a married man with no children and had no income other than his official salary, the figures would be £330 11s. 0d. and £335 11s. 10d., respectively.
