HC Deb 21 April 1959 vol 604 c32W
81. Mr. G. Roberts

asked the Minister of Works whether, in view of the continued redundancies in the North Wales quarrying industry, he will institute an inquiry into the position and prospects of the industry.

Mr. Molson

I am not satisfied that an inquiry would help. There is every expectation that the stone industry will benefit from the expansion of civil engineering work resulting from Government policies.

So far as the slate industry is concerned, there have been a number of inquiries i[...] the past, and the reasons for the present situation are well known. The Government are encouraging industrial development in North-West Wales as alternative sources of employment.
