asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many fatal accidents occurred in homes in Scotland in 1958; and what were the main causes of these deaths.

Mr. Maclay

1,109 fatal accidents in the home were registered in Scotland in 1958. The main causes were falls 48 per cent.; gas poisoning 21 per cent.; suffocation 15 per cent.; injuries by fire, scalding, etc., 9 per cent.; and poison 5 per cent. in that order.
