§ 53. Mr. Stonehouseasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many Africans have been charged with being members or organisers of the African National Congress in Nyasaland; and what sentences have been imposed on them.
§ Mr. J. Ameryasked Up to 11th April twenty persons have been charged with managing an unlawful society. Fifteen have been convicted and have received sentences varying from being bound over for two years to four and a half years' imprisonment. Five cases are awaiting trial. Ninety persons have been charged with being 97W members of an unlawful society. Thirty-eight have been convicted, receiving sentences varying from being bound over for one year to eighteen months' imprisonment. Fifty-two cases await trial.
