HC Deb 15 April 1959 vol 603 c92W
Mr. N. McLean

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what consideration he has given to the representations made to him by the hon. Member for Inverness about the weight restriction on the Fort William to Mallaig trunk road; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maclay

Following an examination of the road, I have concluded that the condition of two bridges at Drumsallie and Morar, respectively, is such that I would not be justified in proposing to raise the existing weight restriction of three tons on this road. I propose that both bridges should be strengthened as a matter of urgency and, when this has been done, I shall give notice of my intention to make an order raising the weight limit to 14 tons, the legal maximum weight limit for four-wheeled vehicles.
