HC Deb 26 November 1958 vol 596 c40W
54. Mr. Lewis

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that in October there were 1,811 registered unemployed in the county borough of West Ham, with only 514 notified unfilled vacancies and that, in addition, there were, and are, a large number of dock-workers unemployed; and what action he proposes to take to ease this growing unemployment problem in West Ham.

Mr. Iain Macleod

Yes. My local offices will continue to do all they can to place the unemployed in suitable vacancies not only in West Ham but in other parts of London.
