HC Deb 26 November 1958 vol 596 c55W
Mr. Russell

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he will give details about the junction between the five-mile motorway spur with the Watford by-pass at Aldenham, especially whether northbound traffic going on to the spur will be separated from southbound traffic on the by-pass.

Mr. Watkinson

The junction is at present planned as a large ground level roundabout and northbound traffic on to the motorway will weave on the roundabout with southbound traffic on the Watford by-pass.

Mr. Russell

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what estimate he has formed of the increase in traffic along the Watford by-pass when the first section of the new motorway comes into use; and when the by-pass is to be widened and its roundabouts enlarged.

Mr. Watkinson

I estimate that traffic along the Watford by-pass may double when the Aldenham spur to the motorway comes into use. Schemes are in preparation for more than doubling the capacity of this route, but I cannot yet say when work will start.
