§ 61. Mr. Zilliacusasked the Minister of Labour what were the numbers of unemployed and the percentage of unemployment, at the latest convenient date and one year earlier, in the constituency of Gorton.
§ Mr. Iain MacleodOn 17th November, 1958, 1,339 persons were registered as unemployed at Openshaw and Denton Employment Exchanges and Youth Employment Offices, which cover a wider area than the Gorton constituency. This compares with 507 a year ago. These offices form part of the Manchester area for which November figures are not yet available. The unemployment rate for Manchester was 2.0 per cent. in October last and 1.2 per cent. in November 1957.
