HC Deb 26 November 1958 vol 596 c40W
50. Mr. Ainsley

asked the Minister of Labour how many of the 567 registered as unemployed at the Crook Employment Exchange, include the figures from the juvenile employment office; and what percentage increase is being paid out in this connection at the latest convenient date and twelve months previously.

Mr. Iain Macleod

The figures included 32 juveniles registered at the youth employment office. The total amount of unemployment benefit and National Assistance paid at Crook Employment Exchange and the youth employment office during the week ended 24th October, 1958, showed an increase of 148 per cent. over the amount paid in the corresponding week last year. This increase was due in part to the higher weekly rates of benefit and National Assistance which came into force early this year.
