§ 19. Mr. Albuasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what effect the reduction in grant to the Colony of Kenya will have on the development of trade schools and on the building of a technical institute in Nairobi; and whether he will make a statement on the present position.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe special grant to Kenya is given only to help meet expenditure arising from the emergency, and is not related to projects in the normal budget or development programme.
The current development plan to 1960 provides for the conversion or expansion of three technical and trade schools, the building of a fourth, and the creation of a technical institute at Nairobi. The conversion and expansion programme is nearly completed and work is expected to begin on the institute in the financial year beginning in July.
