Captain Corfieldasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what has been the total expenditure for the years 1955–56 and 1956–57 in respect of sheep under the Hill Farming Act; and what proportion of this expenditure has been in respect of applications relating to flocks of under 40 ewes.
§ Mr. GodberTotal expenditure on hill sheep subsidy in England and Wales in the subsidy year 1955–56 was £498,000. It was agreed with the National Farmers' Union that no subsidy was payable for 1956–57 in view of the economic circumstances of the hill sheep industry. My right hon.
