HC Deb 04 March 1958 vol 583 c112W
26. Mr. T. W. Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what action he is taking to ensure that so far as possible Welsh roofing slates are used in public and local authority building in Scotland.

Mr. Maclay

Each authority must choose for itself the materials to be used for its building work. Where costs are satisfactory, my Departments raise no objection to the use of slates for roofing. I have no doubt that where there are not sufficient Scottish slates available, recourse will be had to the use of slates from Wales and other parts of the country.
