§ 30. Mr. S. O. Daviesasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what were Her Majesty's Government's reasons for interfering with and prohibiting Chinese residents in Hong Kong from flying the Chinese national flag and singing the Chinese national anthem on International Labour Day, 1st May.
§ Mr. ProfumoNo general prohibition was imposed. The Hong Kong Government refused permission to five schools to fly the flag because in the circumstances of Hong Kong it was thought that that might involve the children in political controversy.
