§ Mr. Patrick Maitlandasked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) how many road accidents, involving fatal and nonfatal injuries, respectively, have occurred at Glassford crossroads, Lanarkshire, since the end of the war;
(2) whether, in view of the fatal accident at Glassford crossroads, Lanarkshire, on 13th July, he is satisfied with the road safety precautions there.
§ Mr. MaclaySince 1st January, 1947, the earliest date from which records are available, there have been four accidents at Glassford crossroads involving three fatalities and injury to eleven persons and seven collisions not involving personal injury. This is a junction between classified roads, and it is for Lanarkshire County Council as the highway authority to consider in the first place whether it requires improvement. I have, however, arranged for my engineers to co-operate with the highway authority and the police in an investigation of road conditions at this point.
