60. Mrs. Whiteasked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what steps are being taken to safeguard British interests in Ceylon in view of its present disturbed state.
§ Mr. AlportAs I said in my reply to the hon. Member for Middleton and Prestwich (Sir J. Barlow) on 26th June, there has so far been no indication of any serious threat to United Kingdom lives and property. Her Majesty's Government are confident that the Ceylon authorities will continue to discharge their responsibilities in this respect. The United Kingdom High Commissioner is keeping in close touch with the situation.
