§ 66. Mr. Haleasked the Prime Minister what is the extent to which British research in the field of production of thermo-nuclear energy will involve modifications in the programme for production of atomic energy.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerI have been asked to reply.
There will be no modifications in the present plans for the civil nuclear power programme. As my right hon. Friend the Paymaster-General said on 11th November, 1957, many major problems remain to be solved before the practical application of thermo-nuclear reactions can be considered and the work must be expected to remain in the research stage for some years.
