HC Deb 04 February 1958 vol 581 cc151-2W
65. Mr. Blenkinsop

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether he will make a statement regarding the action he proposes to take to secure public access to stretches of wild moorland in the West Riding of Yorkshire in view of the recent decision of the County Council not to reopen negotiations with the landowners.

Mr. Bevins

My right hon. Friend has under consideration a report which he has just received from the West Riding County Council covering areas outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park, but he is not yet in a position to make a statement. He is still awaiting the County Council's proposals for the areas within the Park.

Mr. H. Brooke

I would remind my hon. Friend that this suggestion was considered and rejected by the Departmental Committee on Coastal Flooding in 1954. But Exchequer grants are made under the Coast Protection Act to help local authorities faced with heavy expenditure.
