HC Deb 16 December 1958 vol 597 c180W
85. Mrs. Castle

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what steps are being taken in Kenya to investigate and prevent the formation of a secret society on the lines of Mau Mau; and what facilities are available for Africans in Kenya to pursue constitutional political activities.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

As the House knows, vigorous action has been taken against Kiama Kia Muingi, which is a variation of Mau Mau. Recent allegations about the existence of another subversive organisation are being carefully investigated and if they are well founded the necessary counter-measures will be taken.

It is the Kenya Government's policy to allow members of all communities as much opportunity for the pursuance of political activities as is consistent with the maintenance of public order.
