§ 133. Mr. Spriggsasked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance if he will institute proceedings for a full inquiry into unemployment benefits and dependants' allowances, in view of the cost of food and higher rents.
§ Miss PittNo. As the hon. Member is no doubt aware, the rates of these benefits were increased earlier this year to the highest level in real terms since the introduction of the National Insurance scheme; and since then their real value has been higher than at any previous date.
