HC Deb 09 December 1958 vol 597 cc25-6W
83. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs, what estimate he has, or what inquiries he has made to secure an estimate, in respect of the number of householders and tenants whose accommodation has had to be relinquished or demolished in connection with new or expanded roadways; and, in view of the impossibility of the Leyton Borough Council rehousing the many persons likely to lose their accommodation when the Eastern Avenue Extension is constructed through the borough, what steps he will take to ensure the proper rehousing of these people.

Mr. H. Brooke

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport normally makes arrangements for ensuring any necessary rehousing in connection with roadworks for which he is responsible, including the Eastern Avenue Extension. As to the latter, I understand that this proposal is still being examined and that no estimate can yet be made of the number of people who may need rehousing.
