HC Deb 09 December 1958 vol 597 c46W
Mr. Body

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is satisfied that the existing salaries in the probation service is not causing officers to leave the service; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. R. A. Butler

My Department does not necessarily know why a particular probation officer has resigned; but the wastage for all reasons in recent years has not been high, as I showed in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend on 29th July. On Present information, it seems likely to be less in 1958 than in 1957. A salary claim by probation officers is under consideration by the Joint Negotiating Committee for the Probation Service.
